JUMPING THE SHARK

Development Production at the White Bear Theatre, 2019

Misleads, straight reverses, telegraphing, the rule of three, the law of C, jumping the shark...these are the rules of comedy. You can't just learn them. You have to live them. Afterall, comedy's no laughing matter...

Five strangers gather in a conference room on the outskirts of Farnham. The hotel has seen better days and is in need of improvement, but then again so are our protagonists.

'Hilarious. Believable and plotted with wit.' - The Spectator

Michael’s first play All Manner Of Means formed part of a ‘celebration of new writing’ at BAC. It was Time Out Critics' Choice and transformed for a sell out run at The Kings Head. Seduced was presented at the multi-award winning Finborough Theatre as part of their new British plays season. Other writing work includes Under the Influence at the White Bear and Contact.com at the Park Theatre main house starring Charlie Brooks, Tanya Franks, and Jason Durr.  Contact.com is published by Methuen. Michael’s new play All Inclusive will go into production next year.

Middle-aged Matthew and his long-suffering wife Naomi await the arrival of the youthful Ryan and Kelly to their elegant North London home. They’ll meet for one night of unlimited pleasure, then part. That’s the agreement, that’s the plan – but can they stick to it? Ryan and Kelly have a different agenda…

Starring Ralph Aiken, Charlie Brooks (EastEnders, Bleak House), Jason Durr (Heartbeat, Sherlock Holmes UK No.1 Tour) and Tanya Franks (Broadchurch, Eastenders), Contact.com is a delicious combination of caustic wit, powerful drama and social observation.

Directed by Ian Brown at the Park Theatre and published by Methuen.
